Sending money through Western Union

  • For transfer of funds to Indian residents and foreign residents of India the following rules (a. and b.) apply:
    1. a. If the amount does not exceed the value of Rs 49,999 (approx USD 1,100) it can be received in cash.
    2. b. If the amount exceeds the value of Rs. 50,000, a cheque is issued in the name of the receiver which must then be deposited into a local bank account (which in our case is Somayag bank account; account holder Karin Heschl).
In this case up to USD 2500 can be received at a time.
However, this complicates and delays the process since funds will be available only after the cheque has been cleared by the bank.

  • For transfer of funds to non-resident foreigners in India, up to USD 2500 can be received in cash at a time.

Important Note: The sender must provide the full name and address of the recipient.
If money is sent in the name of Karin Heschl or Aurelia Heumader, please use the following address:

12, Shubh Laxmi Complex, 2nd floor
Sanghi Colony
Indore – 452 001
Madhya Pradesh, India

Mob. Karin: +91 97 55 00 44 01
Mob. Aurelia: +91 97 55 007 004

(Please note, we fall into the above categories a. and b. as we are foreign residents in India)

The sender must inform the recipient of the Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN) (printed on receipt) to enable the recipient to collect the money.

Sending money through Moneygram

- NOT advisable

  • With Moneygram, the regulations on transfer of amount are the same as Western Union.
  • The biggest drawback with moneygram is documentation.
  • There are more conditions and submissions of documents required.
  • We had a lot of trouble getting the money last year when this method was used.
